If I Weren't Here

Quick! A game!

If you could be anywhere else right now, at this exact moment, where would you be? (Assuming you are not exhilarated with where you are). I'll go first. Right now, I'd rather be in a spa getting a massage.

I want to be in a hot tub jaccuzzi and then get a massage and then be fed bon bons and read gossip magazines and then take a nap.

Oh, I got it- someone's backyard, sipping margarita's, and then a nap.

Try napping on the roofdeck with a cocktail by your side. Now that's a little oasis. If you can ignore the sounds of traffic. I just imagine that the AC/ventilation systems across the street on the roof of St Francis College are the sounds of ocean waves...

Tempy, I'm embarrased to say that, while I can rock some serious cocktails, I have not yet made a margarita that I was pleased with drinking, so I wouldn't inflict one on you. Once again, if my apartment weren't such a mess, I could grant Lynne's roof deck wish. It's a relaxing and inexpensive way top get loaded - I mean relax. Soon...I swear!

Oh, I'll teach you margarita.

I'll take you up on that one, baby. Just as soon as my home is presentable (TONS of filing to do - the stuff just backs up when you aren't looking!).

I didn't actually answer the original question, so here goes. One of the following

1) Barcelona, eating the best Paella I've ever had, and drinking Sangria at El Gran Cafe or La Veronica. (Yes, I had to look it up.) I think one of those is the right place - both names were scrawled on a scrap of paper tucked inside a 4-year old tour guide). It was in the El Raval 'hood, which was a very cool, slightly sketchy, up-and-coming neighborhood. It's quite possible that it's gone through something like an East Village transformation, but I hold out hope. That was some seriously inexpensive food and drink! Of course none of that takes into account the weak dollar-euro exchange.

2) Mexico (more favorable currency exchange situation). Playa del Carmen, specifically. Just me, with a couple of books and magazines, lounging in the hammock on my private balcony or by the pool at Hotel Deseo (their sangria, while not traditional Spanish-style, was delicious) having drinks and yummy little appetizers delivered to my lounge chair. No obligatory conversation, no errands to run, and no list of tourist-y sh*t to tend to. Just relaxation. Check it: www.hoteldeseo.com (someone tell me how to create hyperlinks in this thing!). I went there for a couple of nights between quitting unnamed bank and joining other unnamed bank about three years ago. Back before I was shiftless...

I think I'd rather be at the dump. Look who hates their job!

Closer to the right budget: Mexico. Playa del Carmen, specifically. Tijuana. Picking up some black market Quaaludes, blacking out after a cross-tops bender, and waking up clutching a cement burro and wearing a sombrero and nothing else on a back street in the "gueto"
