You just discovered this? Oh man, it was all the rage on sports blogs back then. Real Sports on HBO did an amazing piece on it a few years ago. That piece would probably make you cry for days. Alas, I can't find it online.
A hallmark card makes me cry for days. An ASPCA commercial makes me cry for days. A picture of an onion makes me cry for days. This... whoa.
